据外媒报道，自当地时间5月3日起，夏威夷最活跃火山--基拉韦厄火山不断向Leilani Estates的居民区喷发出岩浆和熔岩，迫使那里的人不得不从自己的家园撤离出去。据了解，这场火山爆发已经摧毁了26处房屋，无疑它在带给人们震撼的同时也带来了苦难。

根据美国地质调查局(USGS)的数据了解到，自1983年开始，这座火山几乎就没停止过喷发。康科特大学火山学家Janine Krippner表示，虽然这样的火山爆发对于基拉韦厄火山来说算是正常的活动，但这次的不同之处在与它发生在了人类居住的区域并由此造成了大量的破坏。

明亮的熔岩从裂缝中冒出，向空中喷射到330英尺（100米）的地方。

在过去进一个星期内，岩浆一直沿着East Rift Zone向下移动，在那里岩浆发生了分支这使得破坏性变得更大。Krippner称，目前还不清楚这次火山爆发的原因。USGS的数据显示，基拉韦厄火山口的岩浆向下移动了721英尺（220米），现在它正从East Rift Zone涌出。

由于灼热的岩浆在地下堆积了大量的压力进而导致路面断裂。值得庆幸的而是，岩浆的移动速度不算太快，一般速度都低于0.62英里/时（大概相当于1公里/时）。不过有些时候它则会出现熔岩泉，因为它含量气体，这就好比一罐可乐，当你使劲摇晃后再打开就会出现可乐喷射的情况。

Krippner表示现在想要断定火山爆发将持续的时间还比较困难，或许只有几个星期或许要几个月。
